Scalable Peripheral
Processor (SPP) |
TeleflexMorse
Electronics is currently participating in a project under the European Union
4th Framework ESPRIT program (Project Number 29173). This project is a
collaboration of five partners within the EU and is for the development of a
Scalable Peripheral Processor (SPP). The goal of the SPP project is to create
a new generation of micro-controller that can combine a high performance RISC
processor and an application specific but re-configurable peripheral device.
Our main application will be in the LCD display
area for use in the marine, terrestrial and aeronautical environments whose
market potential is estimated at up to 45 million EURO.
A chip will be the final result in the ASIC
development phase.
The main characteristic of this project is the
use of two ARM
cores, plus a programmable section with complex macro blocks (Graphic Engine,
Communication ports and cartographic dedicated hardware). The use of
the ARM processors, together with the sharing of memory and I/O devices
from peripheral processors will drastically reduce the cost and power
consumption of the final system
This integration is a strategic task to be
performed for the next generation of displays.
The development of a new generation of
multi-core debuggers and system level evaluators for ARM technology will
guarantee the implementation and optimisation of the new chip
. TeleflexMorse
Electronics will utilise the new processor to enhance its reputation as a
global implementor of smart systems. Its range of digital CAN instrumentation
devices becoming far more widely accepted whilst increasing sales of existing
core technologies
